Phases of the moon for February are:

• Feb. 5 — Last quarter.

• Feb. 14 — New moon.

• Feb. 22 — First quarter.

• Feb. 28 — Full moon (Wolf Moon, Snow Moon, Hunger Moon).

----------------

Mars is big and bright this month. Mars loses about three-quarters magnitude of brightness and its disk shrinks from 14 seconds to 12 seconds. The planet will take even greater losses in its luster and size next month, so now is the time to observe it in telescopes.

With the naked eye or binoculars, watch the Red Planet pass more than 3 degrees north of M44, the Beehive Cluster, around Feb. 4, continuing to retrograde westward all month.

Thanks Nancy!
Interesting about the different names for the moon, I googled and found a farmer's almanac with descriptions. The different moons were used to work around the seasons for planting, harvesting and other things. I've learned something new, thank you!
