Back in the days of DOS, and before the internet, people used to use their computer modems to dial into BBS's (Bulletin Board Systems) on other people's computers. These BBS's were communities where people could message each other, share files, play games, etc. Except everything was text and keyboard based (no graphics or mouse). This sort of 16 color ANSI and ASCII text art (although every artist has his own style) then evolved in response to "brighten up", stylize, individualize and customize these BBS's. ANSI and ASCII artists then started joining together, creating art groups, and releasing monthly "art packs".

Over the period of Jun-Nov 2008 there was some inspiration to give the art another go, and this is the product of that. :)

A computer running the DOS operating system is limited to only 80 text characters wide and this particular piece is significantly breaking from that tradition, being about 140 characters wide.

A program called PabloDraw was used to "draw" (type) and color them. http://pablo.etoxn.ca
